FAQ 

1. WHO PAYS FOR THE REPAIR OF MY VEHICLE?

If the damage to your vehicle is the result of your error and you have comprehensive and /or collision coverage, then your insurance company pays for the repairs (less your deductible). You are responsible for paying the deductible amount directly to the body shop upon completion of repairs.


If the damage to your vehicle is a result of the error or negligence of someone else, then their insurance company is
responsible for paying the full amount of the repair cost.

2. WILL THE INSURANCE COMPANY GUARANTEE THE REPAIR WORK?

The collision repair facility guarantees its own work. An insurance company or other third-party cannot effectively

3. AM I REQUIRED TO USE A REPAIR SHOP ON MY INSURANCE COMPANY’S LIST?

No – who does the repair is entirely your decision. An insurance company may make a recommendation, but they cannot require you to take your vehicle to a facility of their choosing.

4. DO I NEED TO GET THREE ESTIMATES?

No – there is no law that requires you to obtain three estimates. You have the right to have your vehicle repaired at the facility of your choice.


If you are dealing with a private party or an insurance company that does not have a local claims office, it may expedite your repair process to obtain more than one estimate. Do not get an estimate from any collision repair facility that you would NOTwant to repair your vehicle.

5. WHAT IF ANOTHER BODY SHOP OR THE INSURANCE COMPANY PROVIDES AN ESTIMATE THAT IS DIFFERENT FROM YOURS?

Differences in repair estimates are common. Some repair operations are based on the appraiser’s judgment and may vary. A difference in the collision estimating software used by the insurance company or another shop may also result in variations.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU ARE INVOLVED IN AN
ACCIDENT:

Stay at the scene of the accident. Check the safety of passengers in all
vehicles involved. Turn off ignition switches to reduce the risk of fire. Do
not attempt to move any seriously injured persons unless their vehicle is
on fire.


Get important information at the scene. In addition to obtaining
information from other drivers, be sure to get the names and phone
numbers of any witnesses or people who stopped to help. Print out the Accident Checklist form on this page and keep a copy in your vehicle. This form provides a helpful “fill in the blanks” record of the information you need to obtain.

Share only pertinent information at the scene. Provide your driver’s
license, registration, insurance information and contact information
only to other drivers and police officers. Do not discuss accident details with anyone except the police. Do not discuss responsibility with
anyone except a representative of your insurance company. If your vehicle is not drivable, the police will call a wrecker service from their approved list unless you specify who you would like to use.
